Why Gun Control Is Bad

Weapon Control Argumentative Essay All firearms can possibly be hazardous and ought to be maneuvered carefully. Firearms have been a piece of American life for whatever length of time that individuals can recall. For a great many people weapons are seen as perilous and unsafe. Notwithstanding, that isn't correct; firearms can be perilous, yet just on the off chance that they are in an inappropriate hands. Claiming a firearm is correct that each American ought to have the option to invest wholeheartedly in having. Firearms are utilized for self-protection, chasing, law authorization and different employments. The option to claim a weapon is secured in the second protected amendment. Therefore, prohibiting firearms from being possessed or bought isn't right and unlawful. Weapon control in the United States ought to be abrogated. The facts confirm that very nearly 100,000 individuals are harmed or murdered by firearms in the United States each year (Scalia). Be that as it may, 3. 5 milli on individuals in the United States have hide to-convey and proprietors licenses for their weapons (Stearns). These wounds are generally unintentional and just around 17 percent of those are criminal (Scalia). Unmistakably, the vast majority of the weapons claimed in America are utilized for self protection and are not implied for hurt. More than 100 million individuals in the United States own weapons exclusively for self-preservation (Stearns).Cliff Stearns said parents in law Permitting Concealed Guns Ensure Public Safety, Å"Found in an examination by the U. S. Division of Justice, 64 percent of sentenced criminals said they had been frightened away or Å"shot off by a casualty conveying a covered gun (Stearns). This plainly demonstrates permitting covered weapons diminishes wrongdoing and ensures individuals. Consequently, the professionals of covered weapons exceed its cons. One contention is that a large number of illicit guns are sold and disseminated all through the Unite d States each year; this is a motivation behind why some propose restricting weapons completely. On the opposite, over $100 million in United States government income is created by legitimate firearm and ammo deals each year (Weir 156). Despite the fact that there are numerous weapons sold illicitly, the practically the entirety of firearm and ammo deals are legitimate (Weir 128). Additionally, if all out firearm control was permitted, it would preclude Americans from chasing. A few Americans chase exclusively to take care of their families. As William Weir said in A Well Regulated Militia, Å"The deals of weapon and ammo help animate the economy (Weir 203). Obviously the matter of illicit firearm deals would possibly increment and make more issues if all out weapon control was allowed. Also, the United States government would lose a significant wellspring of income by restricting weapons. At long last, attacks of unlawful weapon and ammo stashes by law authorization are sold lawfull y for a helpful benefit. The option to remain battle ready is ensured by the second Constitutional alteration. Having said this, all firearm bans ought to be established, anyway they are definitely not. Some way or another officials figure out how to function around the second correction and authorize weapon bans. For instance, the District of Columbia has a fairly exacting firearm boycott (Scalia). This is particularly amusing on the grounds that it is the countries capital, where opportunity ought to be at its most elevated. In any case, in D. C. it is unlawful to have a handgun in your home (Scalia). Antonin Scalia composed this about D. C. s firearm boycott justified to Own a Gun Is Guaranteed by the Constitution, Å"The Districts all out restriction on handgun ownership in the home adds up to a forbiddance of a whole class of Å"arms that Americans decide for legitimate self-defense (Scalia). This boycott, as other firearm bans, straightforwardly opposes the second change to t he Constitution. There is likewise a trigger lock strategy in D. C. which is additionally incompletely forbidding firearms (Scalia). This trigger lock strategy is unlawful moreover. The approach precludes the weapon to be utilized for self preservation. This boycott and trigger lock strategy, alongside others, are unlawful and wrong. Firearm control in the United States ought to be nullified. A few people in the United States accept that firearm control is fundamental. Nonetheless, unmistakably firearm control isn't right and unlawful. Firearm control legitimately damages the second naturally revision and ought not be allowed.Allowing hidden weapons acquires income for the administration, be that as it may, it additionally keeps the open safe. More than 100 million individuals in the United States own weapons exclusively with the end goal of self-preservation. Those individuals have the right to have the option to have and keep that directly as a resident of the United States. It is the privilege of the American individuals to settle on the decision on whether to possess a firearm or not. The constructive outcomes that firearms have on individuals exceed the negative impacts. Anyway it ought to be noticed that, all firearms can possibly be risky and ought to be maneuvered carefully.

Image Segmentation: Theories and Technology

Picture Segmentation: Theories and Technology Hypothetical Concepts and Technical Aspects on Image Segmentation Picture division is a critical territory in PC vision. Picture division, parcels a picture into various areas dependent on certain likeness imperatives. This goes about as the pre-handling stage in a few picture investigation issues like picture pressure, picture acknowledgment and so forth. Division is the indispensable part for the effective extraction of picture highlights and arrangement. Picture division can be characterized as the parcel of a picture into a few areas or classes. These districts can be comparable in any highlights like shading, surface, force and so forth. Each pixel in a picture is alloted to any of the ordered locale. Nature of division is portrayed as pixels in a similar locale are comparative in certain qualities while pixels in various areas contrast in the attributes. The division procedure incorporates rebuilding, upgrade, and portrayal of the picture information in the necessary structure. Picture Segmentation Techniques Picture division procedures can be comprehensively grouped dependent on specific qualities. Essential orders of picture division procedures incorporate neighborhood and worldwide picture division methods. The division technique that is worried about dividing explicit parts or district of picture is known as nearby picture division. The division strategy that is worried about dividing the entire picture, comprising of extremely enormous number of pixels is known as worldwide picture division. The following class of picture division strategy depends on the properties of the pictures to be sectioned. It is arranged as brokenness location based methodology and similitude identification based methodology. In brokenness identification based methodology, the division depends on discontinuities in the pictures like edge based division and likeness location put together methodology is based with respect to comparability of districts like Threshold based, Region developing, Region Splitting and Merging and so on. The division method which depends on the data of the structure of required part of the picture is known as auxiliary division. The majority of the division techniques are stochastic sort, where the division is totally relied on the discrete pixel estimations of the picture. Edge based division technique is the least difficult strategy for division. The picture pixels are sectioned dependent on the force level. This sort of division is progressively relevant for pictures where the articles are lighter than the foundation. This strategy depends on earlier information on the picture highlights. There are primarily three sorts of limit based division. Worldwide Thresholding: This technique is finished utilizing a legitimate edge esteem. The limit worth will be consistent for the entire picture. Yield of the picture depends on this edge esteem. Variable Thresholding: In this kind of division technique the estimation of limit can change in a solitary picture. Numerous Thresholding: In this sort of thresholding, the yield of division depends on different edge esteems. Limit esteems can be registered from picture histograms. In [1], limit put together level set methodology based with respect to edge based division and quick walking technique [2] for clinical pi cture division is proposed. To improve the picture procurement process in PC vision, limit put together division technique based with respect to entropy models and hereditary calculation is referenced in [3]. Edge put together division strategy is based with respect to the unexpected difference in power esteems in a picture. In picture handling, object limits are spoken to utilizing edge. Edge based division works by recognizing the area of sudden power change in a picture [4]. Chiefly there are two sorts of edge based division techniques. Dark Histogram Technique: In this strategy the closer view is isolated from the foundation dependent on a limit esteem. Picking the right limit esteem makes an issue. Angle Based Method: Gradient can be characterized as the first derivate of the picture close to the edge. Higher change in the power esteems between two areas is delineated by the high estimation of angle greatness. So as to perform multi scale picture division an edge based auto limit producing technique is presented in [5]. Another strategy for edge discovery utilizing difference channel is presented in [6]. Hypothesis based division strategy utilizes subsidiaries from a few fields. A few sorts of this sort of calculation incorporates, Clustering based division: In this strategy bunches are framed dependent on the similitude rules (size, shading, surface and so forth). Strategies incorporate k-implies grouping, fluffy bunching, hard grouping and so forth [7]. Counterfeit Neural Network: In this strategy the neuron speaks to the pixels and division is performed with the assistance of prepared pictures. Strategies utilizing Wavelet Decomposition and Self Organization Map of fake neural systems are proposed [8]. District based division [13] strategies are like edge based division. The upside of area put together division with respect to edge based is that, the previous is progressively invulnerable to commotion. In this strategy, the district of a picture is either splitted or converged into regions dependent on comparability. District Growing: the assortment of pixels is assembled into a locale with comparative properties [9]. Locale Splitting and Merging: Here the picture is additionally partitioned into a few areas dependent on some pre-characterized models. Diagram cut picture division is a huge procedure of division under district based division. A few procedures of area developing strategies incorporate methods that consolidate edge and locale based data utilizing morphological watershed calculations [10]. In this strategy, at first a commotion channel alongside extent inclination is utilized and pre division is performed through area consolidating. A locale comparability chart is then delivered and last division is performed utilizing Multi Class Normalized Cut. This procedure overwhelms the Spectral grouping technique. As the strategy referenced is a tedious errand, new technique is introduced [11]. To identify protests forcefully, least square technique is utilized for locale based division. Here the neighborhood data is additionally considered by computing the weight lattice. This division procedure is ideal and quick. Chart cut Image Segmentation As referenced in the above strategies, the methods either utilize the area data or utilize the limit data [12]. This outcomes in constrained division. In diagram cut division ideal outcome for vitality work is processed and division depends on that outcome. Rudiments of Graph-Cut An undirected chart, set of vertices and a lot of edges, are thought of. Vertex speaks to the pixels in a picture and edges indicate the association between the nearby pixels. There exists a source and sink hub which holds the closer view and foundation individually. In diagram cut strategy, each edge is doled out with a non-negative weight which coins the term cost. [12] A diagram cut is really the parceling of the edge set into a few part sets. Diagram cut strategy can be either min cut or max cut. Min cut can be characterized as sliced through least expense and max cut can be characterized as the slice through most extreme expense. That is after the cut played out, the vertices are isolated into two sets, source and sink, which holds the frontal area and foundation pixels separately. Actualizing diagram slice technique allots esteem 1 to the pixels in the forefront and 0 to the pixels out of sight. This is accomplished through least chart cut strategy by limiting the vitality work. Sorts of Graph Cut Based Algorithm The chart cut based division can be mostly partitioned into three sorts. They are Speed-up based chart cut, Interactive based diagram cut and Shape earlier based chart cut. The accelerate based chart slice technique is utilized to improve the speed of the diagram slice strategy through equal processing. Prior usage depended on CUDA code [14]. The most ideal approach to accelerate the computational time is to diminish the quantity of chart hubs while reproducing the diagram [15] [16]. Another technique utilized for accelerate based diagram cut strategy is grouping based chart cut. Bunching put together chart slice is based with respect to lessening the quantity of hubs by gathering comparable pixels into a solitary group and regarding a group as a hub. Watershed based technique is another significant accelerate based methodology where, slope pictures are thought of and the idea of catchment bowls are utilized [15]. Intuitive based diagram cut assumes a significant job in division of common pictures and the circumstances where the division requires high exactness. In this sort of techniques the seed focuses are chosen and afterward division is performed dependent on these focuses. A few strategies are performed utilizing the idea of bouncing box, where the middle bit of the jumping box compares to the item and histogram is built. The region outside the jumping box is considered as the foundation district [17] [18]. Certain intuitive division is performed by picking both the frontal area and foundation district together. Iterative intuitive chart cut division is additionally performed. Shape earlier based diagram cut division sees its significance where the picture as divided is influenced by commotion, diffuse edge, blocked articles and so forth. In this sort of division, the shape data is incorporated as the vitality work [19] [20]. Contextual analysis In this part a diagram based picture division technique is clarified. The proficient chart based picture division strategy at first thinks about the information picture as a diagram. The pixel esteems are considered as the hubs of the diagram and edge is drawn between the nearby pixels. The edge weight is spoken to by the contrast between adjoining pixels. At first, the considered edge set is arranged in the expanding request of edge weight. The division procedure really s

Blog Archive Monday Morning Essay Tip Lead with Goals

Blog Archive Monday Morning Essay Tip Lead with Goals When most business school candidates read an essay question, they interpret it quite literally. For example, when  Kellogg asks applicants to “Briefly assess your career progress to date. Elaborate on your future career plans and your motivation for pursuing an MBA. (600-word limit),” many applicants assume that they must answer each subquestion within the broader question in the exact order in which they were asked. However, this is not true. Such questions are indeed quite flexible, and at times, by pursuing your own structure, you can better engage your reader. We have found that with regard to overrepresented candidates who have unique professional goals, one strategy that can be quite helpful is leading with goals instead of professional history. After all, “typical” experience is not as captivating as unusual (but realistic!) ambitions. So, the Indian technologist who plans to open a boutique hotel or the male investment banker who aspires to start a competitive windsurfing circuit can use these bold goals to stand out from the start. Again, we emphasize that such candidates need to have (and show!) a compelling connection to their goals, and we do not suggest that overrepresented candidates strive to imagine or create “wild” goals just to catch the admissions committees attention. However, if you have a profound connection to an unusual goal, then  responding to the schools questions in a differing order and ensuring that your goals are out front can make a difference. Why The Colonial Era Of Nigeria Was A Long And Hard...

The colonial era of Nigeria was a long and hard experience for many Nigerians. The country was slowly colonized by Britain in 1885. Through newfound radical nationalist beliefs, Nigeria fought its way through the struggles of making itself into an independent nation. In 1960, the goal of independence was finally reached. Soon after Nigeria found itself in a social crisis of too many clashing cultures, while simultaneously attempting to assert itself as a power nation into the world. The anticolonialization of Nigeria would not have been possible without the Nigerian’s increasingly negative views of European power, which allowed the different cultures to unite in the goal of independence. The method by which Britain colonized Nigeria set the stage for many problems in the future as it was founded on the ability to exploit Nigeria’s markets. Nigeria was not colonized all at once. It was a slow process that began with some contact between Europeans and Nigerians. â€Å"Their primary contact with Europeans was with traders, who wanted to monopolize their markets, and with missionaries, who wanted to convert them to Christianity†¦ British expansion in Nigeria was largely the result of the actions of these traders and missionaries. After 1885, however, the British government moved swiftly to annex all the territory that comprises modern-day Nigeria† (Hunt, 1). The process in which Britain was able to colonize Nigeria through mainly traders, caused many problems. Fair Value Accounting Consequences of Booking

Question: Discuss about the Fair Value Accounting for Consequences of Booking. Answer: Introduction: It has been found that in the field of accounting, the entries are composed of various kinds of assets that include both non-profit organization and for-profit organization (Dagwell, Gaffikin Wines, 2015). These assets can be classified into many sections and these are able to employ or generate by operational behavior of the firm on a daily basis, as these help in estimating the current assets. Moreover, the fixed assets suppose in calculating the financial condition of the firm for several fiscal years. In addition to these, it has been found that abundant firms involve many intellectual properties in the analysis like trademarks, copyright assets and many more. Additionally, this includes those assets that have been appeared due to acquisition of many firms or due to popularity of the firm among the customers for its goodwill and brand image (Bartelmus, 2014). Therefore, it has been noted that these types of assets can be employed directly in order to gain increased revenue. Thes e raised earnings also assist the firms in increasing their profit percentage and customer base indirectly. It has been found that there are several types of assets that cannot be measured in units as their presence cannot be understood physically and are termed as intangible assets. Therefore, the intangible assets are generally recorded in the accounts book of a firm according to the amount attached for procuring assured assets. On the other hand, it has been found that with the passage of time, the actual value of the assets decrease significantly (Khaddafi, Heikal Pravita, 2015). It has been identified that the accounting organizations utilize impairment during the period when the decreased amount and the real value are adjusted with the account of impairment and loss takes place due to fall in the value of assets on the basis of many factors. However, there are some common factors that can be applied to several assets, but some of the factors lead to downfall of value of certain assets. Moreover, vale of equipments, instruments as well as machineries have found to depend on its manufacturing capacity and utilization factor (Bebbington, Unerman O'Dwyer, 2014). Most of such assets are occupied for producing it more and it is likely to decrease the capability of the future production. The high market value of various older tools and machineries started to decrease and finally get obsolete as at present day s modern machineries, instruments and equipments play a vital role. Furthermore, the land value rises with the passage of time and this might reduce due to alteration of vicinity significance and appearance of over population, new cities and shifts in political centers and public centers (Damodaran, 2016). The trademarks and patent rights decrease its value especially after the appearance of shifting in clients choice and modern technologies and the goodwill adds value to it. However, during decrease of value of acquired assets, the value of goodwill also decreases, particularly in purchasing. Nowadays, all firms signify fiscal declarations for the demand of the stakeholders as they have various interests. Moreover, they evaluate these declarations for various viewpoints and both the government and the board of accounting standards puts huge importance on investors interest (Chen, Shroff Zhang, 2014). Therefore, all the listed firms represent both the accurate and fair values of assets and liabilities. Finally, it can be said that the stakeholders who are concerned with assets valuation consider it as an effective option for investment. The shareholders might take defective decisions by depending on the overstated fiscal declarations, if the firms falsely represent its financial declarations without involving the fair value of assets (Lange, Fornaro Buttermilch, 2014). The board of accounting standards has implemented the concept of impairment in order to gain the interest of the stakeholders. Moreover, the government along with the accounting standards offers detailed instruction for impairment of loss and generation of fiscal declarations after the introduction of various standards of accounting and policies of government. Generally, the impairment loss takes place when the carrying amount of assets increases more than its recoverable quantity (Picker et al., 2013). The carrying amount is related with the asset expense and value and depreciates it as per an appropriate technique of depreciation. It has been found that there are mainly two kinds of recoverable amounts, so a firm is capable to select the fair value of asset as a recoverable amount, particularly after the reduction of the needed costs i.e. expected to be practiced by asset. Moreover, asset value is also considered as the recoverable amount and it can be illustrated through net cash flow, which is expected to gather from the assets of future periods. When two values are provided as per IAS 36, this is considered as efficient for selecting the highest one among two (Vernimmen et al., 2014). As per IAS 36, the impairment loss can be calculated by deducting the amount of recoverable assets from the amount of asset carrying. The impairment loss generally debited as per the respective asset in order to diminish the book value of asset and to control the amount of asset accounting that has reduced the value. However, this amount of impairment loss can be adjusted along with the Profit and Loss account and income state ment. Additionally, it is portrayed as the non-operating loss in income statement. Furthermore, when a firm retains Revaluation Surplus account, then Impairment Loss account is credited with Revaluation Surplus account and this reduces the entire amount of shareholders equity (Bepari Mollik, 2015). Finally, it can be concluded that an asset group is also counted as Cash Generating units and it includes the goodwill that is produced from acquisition of assets, but the impairment loss is not regulated consequently. Moreover, the entire value of CGU units needs impairment and here, the impairment loss can be determined by previously mentioned method. In addition to these, it was used to adjust with the account of goodwill. However, if a certain balance is missed even after adjusting along with the goodwill of the firm, then the balanced amount would line up with the assets of CGU that is dependent on the book value of the asset. A Brief History of the Tampon and Who Invented It

A Brief History of the Tampon and Who Invented It The first tampons were made using a wide variety of materials found in nature. The prevailing thought seemed to be that if it was absorbent, chances are that it would work as a tampon.   Tampons First Appeared in Ancient Egypt For instance, the earliest historical evidence of tampon use can be found in ancient Egyptian medical records that described tampons comprised of material derived from the papyrus plant. In the fifth century B.C., Greek women fashioned their protection by wrapping lint around a small piece of wood, according to writings of Hippocrates, a physician considered to be the father of western medicine. The Romans, meanwhile, used wool. Other materials have included paper, vegetable fibers, sponges, grass and cotton.   But it wasn’t until 1929 that a physician named Dr. Earle Haas patented and invented the modern-day tampon (with applicator). He came up with the idea during a trip to California, where a friend told him how she was able to improvise a more comfortable and effective alternative to the commonly used and bulky external pads by simply inserting a piece of sponge on the inside, rather than outside. At the time, doctors were using plugs of cotton to staunch  secretions and so he suspected a compressed form of cotton would absorb just as well.   After a bit of experimenting, he settled on a design that featured a tightly bound strip of absorbent cotton attached to a string to  allow for easy removal. To keep the tampon clean, the cotton came with an applicator tube that extended to push the cotton into place without the user having to touch it. Tampax and o.b.: Two Brands With Longevity Haas filed for his first tampon patent on November 19, 1931, and originally described it as  a catamenial device, a term derived from the Greek word for monthly. The product name â€Å"Tampax,† which originated from â€Å"tampon† and â€Å"vaginal packs,† was also trademarked and later sold to  businesswoman Gertrude Tendrich  for $32,000. She  would go on to form the Tampax company and begin mass production. Within a few years, the Tampax arrived on store shelves and by 1949 appeared in more than 50 magazines.   Another similar and popular type of disposable tampon is the o.b. Tampon. Invented by German gynecologist Dr. Judith Esser-Mittag in the 1940s, the o.b. Tampon was marketed as a â€Å"smarter† alternative to applicator tampons by emphasizing greater comfort and doing away with the need for an applicator. The tampon comes in the shape of a compressed, insertable pad designed to expand in all directions for better coverage and also features a concave tip so that a finger can be used to push it snugly into place.   In the late 1940s, Esser-Mittag partnered with another physician named  Dr. Carl Hahn to start a company and market the o.b. Tampon, which stands for one binde or without napkins in German. The company was later sold to American conglomerate Johnson Johnson.   One major selling point the company touts on its website is the fact that a non-applicator tampon can be more environmentally friendly. How so? Johnson Johnson states that 90% of the raw materials that go into o.b. tampons come from renewable resources.

HIP HOP PROMOTES VIOLENCE essays

HIP HOP PROMOTES VIOLENCE essays Hip Hop was once the African-American experiences and the voices of their people being told throughout music in the early 1990s. African-American youth experiences came about from the rise in police brutality, the crack cocaine epidemic, and its prison industrial complex counterparts. Its growing commercial appeal such as the music videos and soundtracks provided a dangerous outlet for the generation's frustration. "Gangsta rap" claims to speak of the new wealth of poor inner city youngsters. On the other hand with all the disadvantages of inner city life, hip hop culture and its economic components have failed in using its wealth to solve the public policy unfairness that frame urban societies. Despite the millions of dollars flowing to and through the rap music industry and the so called hip hop or urban clothing industry, very little if any of it has gone to support strategies geared at empowering African-Americans within American capitalism. An example of this is in Talib Kweli's 2000 song African Dream lyrics that say, "These cats drink champagne to toast death and pain like slaves on a ship talkin' 'bout who got the flyest chains". Kweli speaks directly about the phony value of fleeting wealth and the failure of hip hop wealth to actually better the quality of African American life. Many rap artists proudly admit that they are only concerned with discussing sex and money in their music. They cut off the idea that they should be troubled with "serious" topics or that hip hop artists have to promote race consciousness. They arrogantly discard the "role-model" label and do not want to take any responsibilities. Hip hop's recent obsession with money, fascination with crime, and complete violation of women signal the absorption of the generation into a mainstream psychology and social ethic. Many including African Americans see the ruthless pursuit of individual wealth as an American dream, and for the hip hop genera...

On team communication and problem solving - Essay Example Conflicts always arise in families with a common blood running through their veins, between lovers who share intimate moments and even among friends who have the same interests. Therefore, it should be without wonder when conflicts arise among officemates or classmates. Nevertheless, the commonness of conflict should not make one simply shrug his shoulders in the presence of conflict. Resolutions such as communication should be sought. This paper looks deeper into the role of communication in conflict management among team members and suggests ways in which people would come to understand further the use of communication to improve team performances and relationships. Communication is very important in every relationship. Nevertheless, people often get exhausted in their communication with others because their expectations are not met. Instead of having the problems resolved, most people encounter more problems and so many times, the problems actually grow bigger. This is because the y fail to see that their communication is ineffective. ... When one listens, he is able to process what is being said more effectively and in effect, will be able to say the right words or respond correctly. Jeane Segal and Melinda Smith agree with Lay and they also suggest people in conflict to â€Å"listen not only to what is said but also to what is felt†. They emphasize looking deeper into nonverbal communication expressed through facial expressions, posture, gesture, pace, tone and intensity of voice. Indeed, these are very important because emotions are the strong driving forces that make people say the words they speak. Human beings are also emotional beings and they often react to words in accordance to how they feel. For instance, when a person points out to another individual that the dress she is wearing is not fashionable, the other person may take it as an insult toward herself and not as a harmless comment about the dress, although the latter was the intention of the speaker. As a result, a conflict may ensue. Therefore, in addition to verbal communication, non-verbal communication should also be given much attention. The aforementioned authors also suggest that conflicts should be managed through non-verbal communication as well. For example, in the illustration given above, when the person saying the dress is not fashionable utters such with contempt, it could be that she is jealous of the other person. Therefore, instead of being offended and angry, the other person may simply give a reassuring touch that tells the person she does not need to be jealous. In addition, when it comes to team conflicts, members should be open-minded to effectively resolve problems. Kenneth Wallace, a seasoned consultant, speaker

Current Supreme Court Cases Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Current Supreme Court Cases - Essay Example She had an infant in her hands and with the nature of the situation plus the initial occurrences; the officers asked her if they could conduct a safety search(Russell 1). However, Fernandez was quick to object claiming that he knew his rights. The officers brought Fernandez into custody under the suspicion he was behind Roxanne’s assault. After identification as one of the perpetrators from the gang robbery, the police accompanied him to the police station. Later on, one of the officers returned to the premises and obtained Roxanne’s consent to search the apartment(Russell 1). The search brought out new evidence that linked Fernandez to the violent robbery. In court, Fernandez’s motion to subdue the proof from the second search did not influence his case. The Georgia v. Randolph case chiefly influenced Fernandez’s motion since the summary judgment held that where there is physical presence of co-tenants and one objects the police’s consent while the other agrees; the police have no option but to respect the objection. Justices Alito, Ginsburg, Kagan, Sotomayors and the Chief Justice were against were against any motions filed with Randolph case as the basis hence agreed with the final decision(Russell 1). However, Fernandez has four votes from Justices Breyer, Kennedy, Scalia and Karlin who supported the Randolph summary judgment with the argument that the police officers went against the law by first taking into custody the objecting party and coming back to obtain consent of other co-tenant. Nonetheless, the California Court of Appeal’s affirmations held that Fernandez was not physically present when Roxan ne gave consent of the search. Typically, the application of Georgia v. Randolph as advocated for by Jeffrey Fisher (Fernandez’s lawyer) was not rational enough to make any exceptions particularly because one of the opposing justices invoked that his expression only depicted insightful disrespect towards Roxanne who wanted

Statement of Purpose Essay I am excited at the prospect of pursuing a Masters in Accounting program (MAC) at North Carolina State University. I am confident that this program which integrates Accounting, Finance and Business studies is the most appropriate choice for me. Graduating from this program will enable me to carve out a career path in Accounting that I have always envisioned for myself here in the United States. My parents, who possess advance degrees in Business Administration, have been the biggest source of inspiration for me and have always encouraged me to pursue graduate level education in the United States. As a child, I was always fascinated with numbers and my interest in Math developed early in my academic career. I decided to further my interest in numbers by pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in computer education from one of the most reputed colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. I chose to do a majority of my courses in Finance and Accounting. These courses enabled me to refine my problem-solving and analytical abilities. The multitude of group projects that I undertook as a part of my finance and accounting course work enabled me to refine and strengthen my leadership and inter-personal skills. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and experience of leading two projects with teams of 3-5 members. These projects were acknowledged as the ‘best in class’ which in turn increased my self-confidence. After completion of my bachelor’s degree, I decided to broaden the scope of my knowledge and experience. I successfully completed a one year Graduate level program in Financial Management together with a 6 month co-op at one of the India offices of Bank of America. My responsibilities at Bank of America included processing home loans and auditing mortgage documents. I was fascinated by the global reach of this company which opened a world of possibilities for me. My consistent interaction with the employees in the U.S enabled me to build effective communication skills and people skills. Now, having migrated to the United States, I am excited about exploring career opportunities at Bank of America. I strongly believe that pursuing the MAC program at North Carolina State University will serve as a perfect launch pad to achieve this goal. In order to lay a strong foundation of knowledge in accounting systems prevalent in the United States, I have completed 18 hours of Certificate of Accounting Program (CAP). The 6 graduate level courses included Federal Income Tax, Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, Intermediate Accounting I II and Management Accounting. By completing these courses, I have satisfied all the pre-requisites that I require to pursue the MAC program at North Carolina State University. Gender Role In Social Construction Essay -- Gender Socialization Sex E

Gender Role In Social Construction Works Cited Missing   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Everyone’s life is affected by social construction. This is the belief that knowledge is determined by society, and in turn (knowledge) is formed by the individuals that belong to the society. When an individual thinks of a doctor, lawyer, priest, engineer, or manager they usually picture males. While nurses, teachers, and housewives (emphasis on wives) are purely female professions in our society. This is social constructionist thought on what role a male/female should play in today’s society. These may not be the professions of choice for the individuals, but what the individual believes is socially acceptable. â€Å"Most of the behavior associated with gender is learned rather than innate†(Chandler 5). People begin to learn what is right and wrong (according to the community) from the earliest of ages. The media contributes to social construction, as women and men are almost always portrayed in a stereotypical manner. By examining the way t he media is presented, one can see the impact of social constructionist thought.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The impact that media can apply varies from society to society, this is because each society obliges to a different social construction. In European countries nudity can be shown on television, and is perfectly acceptable. For example, in the Netherlands:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Governments support massive, consistent, long-term public education campaigns utilizing television, films, radio, billboards, discos, pharmacies, and health care providers. Media is a partner, not a problem, in these campaigns. Sexually explicit campaigns arouse little concern.(â€Å"Love† 2) In this community the openness towards sexuality is not only acceptable, but is the standard set by the society. In the United States however, displaying sexuality is not acceptable. Kirby Anderson states that â€Å"what children see on television encourages them to take part in sexual activity too soon, to show disrespect for their parents, and to lie and engage in aggressive behavior†(4). The American society believes that displaying sexually explicit content pressures the viewers into preforming â€Å"sinful† acts. These acts include anything from using foul language to premarital sex. By comparing the views of these two cultures it is easy to see how â€Å"knowledge in one society may not be considered knowledge in another society... ... 100 ads based on sex appeal contained at least one near-naked woman (England, McBride and Peirce 5). This overwhelming majority just adds to the fact that society believes that women should be compliant and submissive. To advertisers these findings may seem trivial. What does it matter if most ads associate men with supremacy and females as secondary? Or perhaps advertisers believe that complying with society is the only way to sell products.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The clothes we wear, jobs we hold, and roles in society are all partially determined by social construction. Although each society contains a different social construction, the theories themself are presented in the same manner. The mass media is one of the largest social constructs that make up a community, and therefore effects the audience greatly. Movies, television, and advertisements render women as weak and inferior; while men are depicted as the superior leaders of society. According to Doctor William Rouster â€Å"...knowledge is based on what a certain society says it is...†(1). The media is built from what society believes to be true. With this in mind maybe it is the society, not the media, that requires a change.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚

Black Americans Essay

Firstly black Americans faced problems in the south because of lynching and the Jim Crow Laws. Lynching meant that racist white Americans would put the law into their own hands and punish black people whenever they please. They would hang the victim from a tree. In 1897 123 black people were lynched in the south, 84 in 1903 and 61 in 1921. The police would turn a blind eye and made no effort to stop lynching from happening. Even though slavery ended in 1865 black people faced the threat of violence, intimidation and racial discrimination on almost a daily bases. The Jim Crow Laws were created to keep whites and coloured people away from each other. The Jim Crow Laws covered all the aspects of life. Black Americans were stopped from using the same restaurants, hotels, libries, taxis, and even cemeteries. If black people wanted to vote the Jim Crow Law made them have to pass a difficult literacy test and they would have to pay high taxes. Nearly 2million black Americans moved from the southern states to the north in hope of a better life. This was called the Great Migration They thought they would be able to escape the Jim Crow Laws and racism as a whole, they wanted to go to the north for a better chance at jobs and education but little did they know. Secondly black Americans faced problems in the south because of the KKK. The KKK stands for the Ku Klux Klan; they were a racist group and were part of a secret society. The leader of the KKK in the 1920’s was a dentist called Hiram Wesley Evans whose name in the KKK was Imperial Wizard. Only WASP’s could belong to the KKK- White Anglo Saxon Protestants. The KKK targeted blacks mainly, but they also hated Jews, Catholics and Liberals but there main focus was poor black families that were very vulnerable. 5 million white Americans joined the KKK between 1920 to 1925. Most members where poor white people because they were afraid that black people would take over their jobs. Some of the KKK members were judges, policemen and lawyers. They would dress in white sheets and white hoods to cover their identities. The KKK used a variety of different methods such as intimidation, murders, raping, whipping, lynching, castration and tar burning. The Black Americans tried to fight back using non-violent methods. The NAACP -National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People- asked the president for new laws to help combat the KKK violence but received very little results. In the 1920’s Black Americans started to turn to the ‘Back to Africa’ movement which told blacks that they should return to their native America. This was started by Marcus Garvey but the whole movement faltered when he was arrested for fraud and sent to prison. In 1926 membership of the KKK dropped from 2million to 300,000 people. Lastly black Americans faced problems in the north because there was still racism around. Black people would be sent to live in the worst parts of the poorest cities. They were last to be hired and first to be fired from any jobs that they could get their hands on. Factory owners in northern cities knew that huge numbers of black people knew how to work well because of the slavery era. So they sent people down South to encourage them to take jobs in their factories up North with promises of good salaries. They wanted to add to the pool of white workers to keep down wages. So the black workers were encouraged to move North to compete with white workers. The white workers did not welcome the black workers with open arms because they naturally saw them as a threat. The black workers were willing to work for less money at least at first. So this led to racial tension. The white Americans refused to accept black members to protect the jobs. Another thing was that white neighbourhoods did not want poor black people and the problems that came with them moving into their neighbourhoods. It was a bad situation all around and led to much racial issues and even race riots These are the problems black people faced in the USA during the 1920s.

The Salem Witch Trials An Indelible Part Of American...

Girls Gone Wild Over four short months in 1692, several people in the colony of Massachusetts, discovered an easy solution to gain attention, impress local clergy and magistrate, get into the good graces of God, and get rid of people that they found disagreeable—by accusing them of witchcraft. This period, which became known as The Salem Witch Trials, enforced the belief that Puritan ministers spoke for God himself, and also that their opinions were infallible. At least twenty people were killed because of false accusations, and hundreds had their names and reputations torn apart over accusations that they practiced witchcraft (Norton, 2002). Strict Puritan values, a fear of witchcraft, and the counsel of local pastors created the mass hysteria that made the Salem Witch Trials an indelible part of American history. While the Salem Witch Trials is the most well known case of accused witchcraft to students in the United States, it is not the first. In 1484, Pope Innocent VII I acknowledged that witchcraft was happening throughout Europe, and appointed two friars to investigate and report on this suspected witchcraft. In 1486, Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger published Malleus Maleficarum, which explained how witches are real, and are not harmless, but powerful, and working hand in hand with the Devil (Wicasta, 2007). Kramer and Sprenger’s work was not only a model on how to identify, prosecute, and stop witchcraft, but also put forth modern fears and superstitions

Carey V Lake Macquarie City Council free essay sample

Summary of Facts Carey v Lake Macquarie City Council is an appeal from the district court of New South Wales, concerning negligence. The appellant, Carey, was riding his bicycle through a public park before sunrise, which he did regularly. One morning the appellant took a path he had never cycled on before. He was injured after cycling into a bollard positioned in the middle of the path. The bollard was slightly visible as it was dark blue and the path was unlit. The appellant had crossed the path during the day, and had seen the bollard on numerous occasions. The path was not designed for cyclists’ use, but the respondent knew that it was frequently used as such. It was found at trial that the defendant owed the plaintiff a duty of care, but that duty was not breached. The appellant appealed on the issue of liability. Issues The appellant submitted that the respondent was negligent in its placement of the bollard. We will write a custom essay sample on Carey V Lake Macquarie City Council or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He claimed that the positioning and colour of the bollard, combined with the lack of light, presented a risk for cyclists at night. From this submission came the main issue of the case: did the respondent’s placement of the bollard breach its duty of care? The respondent’s arguments on appeal were that the trial judge correctly found that it had not breached its duty of care, and if it had breached that duty, the appellant was 100% liable for contributory negligence. This argument gave rise to the second issue: if the respondent breached its duty of care, is the appellant guilty of contributory negligence, and to what extent? Issue 1: Did the respondent’s placement of the bollard breach its duty of care? The authoritative principle underlying this issue comes from the High Court in Wyong Shire Council v Shirt. It is that where there is a reasonably foreseeable risk of harm to the plaintiff, and the defendant does not respond to the risk in a manner that a reasonable person in the defendant’s position would, the defendant breaches their duty of care. In determining the reasonable person’s response to the risk the court must consider the likely severity of risk, the probability that the risk will materialise, the burden of taking precautions, and the defendant’s other conflicting responsibilities, including the social utility of the thing causing the risk. This principle is also reflected in s 5B of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW), ‘general principles’. Since McClellan CJ at CL’s reasoning considers obviousness of risk as a factor, it is beneficial to first mention this concept. A risk is obvious when it can be readily appreciated by a person who comes upon it, at the time that the person comes upon it. On the facts, his Honour found that although the bollard was obvious to a person during daylight, it was far less obvious to the appellant as he encountered it at night. Reasonably foreseeable risk of harm McClellan CJ at CL mentioned from Ghantous v Hawkesbury City Council, that although people are expected to avoid obvious risks, an allowance for inadvertence must be made. It follows that the harm posed by an obvious risk is foreseeable, despite the expectation that it will be avoided. His Honour highlighted from Edson v Roads and Traffic Authority that it could not be assumed that ‘most persons would take reasonable care for their own safety’. Ghantous also expresses that situational factors can mean obvious risks present a foreseeable risk of harm even to a person exercising reasonable care for their own safety. Applying these cases to the facts, the judges found that the risk posed by the bollard was foreseeable. Reasonable response to risk In determining the reasonable person’s response to the risk, the judges considered the social utility of the bollard. It was accepted that its purpose was to prevent maintenance workers from driving on the path. It was of little benefit as a driver could easily avoid the bollard and continue on the path, and furthermore, maintenance workers are under the Council’s control. Therefore the judges found the risk presented by the bollard was disproportionate to the benefit provided by it. The judges considered the effect of the severity of the risk by mentioning Shellharbour City Council v Johnson, which states that where the harm posed by an obvious risk is serious, an unreasonable response to the risk results in a breach of duty of care. It was found that the bollard created a ‘real and significant hazard for cyclists. ’ On these factors, the judges found that the respondent’s response to the risk was not reasonable. All judges agreed that because the placement of the bollard created a reasonably foreseeable risk, and the respondent’s response to the risk was not reasonable, taking into account he severity of the risk and the social utility of the bollard, the respondent breached its duty of care. Issue 2: Is the appellant guilty of contributory negligence, and to what extent? Determining contributory negligence The relevant principle regarding this issue comes from s 5R of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW), ‘standard of contributor y negligence’. It states that when a person does not exercise the standard of care of a reasonable person in their position, determined on the basis of what the person knows or ought to know, the person is guilty of contributory negligence. The judges agreed that a reasonable person in the appellant’s position, having previously seen the bollard in daytime, would have considered the risk of harm before cycling on the path. The appellant did not consider this. It was found that he should have cycled slowly, keeping a careful lookout, which he did not. The appellant was hence found guilty of contributory negligence. Extent of contributory negligence The principle used to determine the extent of contributory negligence is from s 5S of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW), ‘contributory negligence can defeat a claim’. It states that a court may find a 100% reduction in liability if the finding is ‘just and equitable’. In applying this, McColl JA regarded comparative culpability and the ‘degree of departure from the standard of care of the reasonable man. ’ His Honour found that the appellant’s culpability did not amount to 100%, as the respondent’s negligence was also causative of the appellant’s injuries. All judges agreed that the appellant’s liability due to contributory negligence was 50%. Defence: Voluntary Assumption of Risk To make out the defence of voluntary assumption of risk the principle is that the plaintiff must know about, fully appreciate, and voluntarily agree to, the risk. McClellan CJ at CL extracted these elements from several cases regarding this defence. McClellan CJ at CL interpreted the respondent’s pleas as that it meant to plead voluntary assumption of risk as a substantive defence. McColl JA and McDougall J disagreed with this interpretation. For purposes of completeness, McClellan CJ at CL’s reasoning of this defence will be discussed as if the respondent had pleaded it as a substantive defence. In his reasoning, his Honour again referred to obviousness of risk. His Honour found that a risk is obvious when it would have been obvious to a reasonable person in the plaintiff’s position, considering the plaintiff’s age, experience and characteristics. His Honour found the risk presented by the bollard would have been obvious to an experienced, mature cyclist, who knew of its existence. Section 5G(1) of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) states that ‘a person who suffers harm is presumed to have been aware of the risk of harm if it was an obvious risk’ unless proved otherwise. Since the bollard presented an obvious risk, his Honour presumed the appellant’s awareness of it. However, although the appellant voluntarily cycled on the path, he did not accept the risk, as he ‘did not think about it. ’ His Honour found that the appellant did not voluntary agree to the risk, and the defence of voluntary assumption of risk was not made out. Judges’ Conclusions All judges agreed that by the placement of the bollard the respondent breached its duty of care. This issue was correctly decided because it is necessary for authorities to make public areas safe for their foreseeable users. People trust that activities frequently carried out in a public area can be done with little risk of harm, and that authorities will control the area with this objective. If this duty were not upheld, many injuries would likely occur. Regarding contributory negligence, all judges agreed that the appellant was liable to a degree of 50%. This decision was correct because it is necessary to recognise that an injured party can contribute to their own harm. Without contributory negligence defendants could be wrongly held 100% liable, when the plaintiff was also at fault. Relevance of Obviousness of Risk This case illustrates the relevance of obviousness of risk at different stages of analysis. Within the judges’ discussions it is mentioned in relation to the duty to warn of a risk, breach of duty of care, and voluntary assumption of risk. Duty to warn of a risk Obviousness of risk can assist in determining whether a defendant has a duty to warn a plaintiff of a risk. Section 5H of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW), ‘no proactive duty to warn of obvious risk,’ states that ‘a person does not owe a duty of care to another person to warn of an obvious risk.

The Wind of the Prairies Dust Bowl and the Economical Disaster of the 30ies

When one comes to think of it, the economical disaster of the thirties was quite easy to predict; completely devastated from the WWI, on the one hand, and being on the verge of the outbreak of the WWII, on the other hand, the entire world was slowly pulling itself together for the disaster that was going to strike. For some states, however, the Great Depression meant more than another economical breakdown.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Wind of the Prairies: Dust Bowl and the Economical Disaster of the 30ies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In the United States, the years of the Depression set the industrial North and the agricultural South even further apart, not to mention the fact that death rates across the state went through the roof. To make the matter worse, severe dust bowls, wind from the prairies, ruined the States’ hope for better harvest for another couple of years. Because of the parallel s that Timothy Egan drives between the thirties’ economical devastation and the exhaustingly dry wind from the prairies, the economical disaster, which was prior known to an average American of the XXI century only from history books, suddenly takes a specific and threatening shape, therefore, becoming more tangible and allowing to evaluate the scale of the catastrophe that swept the U.S. in the 30ies. Apart from the metaphor of the Great Depression as the dust bowl that swept the economy of the entire nation away, Egan’s book has a number of intriguing elements that make one return to Timothy’s discussion of the devastation of the U.S. again and again. Egan not only creates a pretty idiom but also stretches it further to represent more links between the dust bowl and the Great Depression without shying away from the differences between the two phenomena; moreover, Egan uses these differences to the advantage of his story. Among these, the origin of the disaster s should be mentioned. Egan stresses several times that, in contrast to the dust bowl, which is caused by nature, the Great Depression was entirely human-induced. While Timothy does not draw the final conclusion at this point of his speculations, allowing the readers to make their own conclusions, it is rather clear that the idea of being responsible for the effects of one’s actions, especially if these effects take a nationwide or even a worldwide scale, is implied: â€Å"Books such as How to get Rich on the Plains explained how any investor could double his money in just five years† (Egan 20).Advertising Looking for essay on american literature? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Remarkably unsettling and clearly aimed at shocking the reader into paying attention, the book may seem disturbingly dark and, therefore, somewhat artificial, which one may consider its basic flaw. On second thought, however, the atmosphe re that Egan manages to build in the process of telling the story of the most complicated era in the history of the USA, serves its purpose perfectly well. In addition, to be honest, the Great Depression did cause numerous deaths of starvation and poverty in the United States, and silencing these facts would have been unfair: â€Å"The high Plains never recovered from the Dust Bowl† (Egan 309). Moreover, when one comes to think of what exactly makes such great impression on the reader, not the shocking facts listed by Egan, but the objectivity, with which the author analyzes them, as well as the fact that Egan does not make hasty conclusions about the Great Depression and the people who were responsible for it come to the fore. Instead of passing judgments, the author provides a careful analysis, which cannot trigger any reproaches concerning the author’s political commitments; as Egan would put it, â€Å"[†¦] the sheriff had no time for politics† (Egan 106 ). Eventually, one should give credit to Egan’s ability to create likable and relatable characters. While one might complain about the characters lacking personality, they are still fleshed out relatively well, and, when reading Egan’s book, one can feel that what the author describes has really happened. As little character development as the story suggests, one can still feel the emotions that the characters feel, and empathize with each of the people described, which is arguably even more important than creating a complete character arch. For example, the readers only know that William Carlyle â€Å"built a dugout in 1915 for his family† (Egan 37), yet they relate to this character after learning how hard he worked and what a devoted father and husband he was.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Wind of the Prairies: Dust Bowl and the Economical Disaster of the 30ies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page L earn More After all, Egan never thought most of these people up – they had, in fact, exact prototypes in real life, and, in Egan’s defense, one must stress that he never resorted either to using the stereotypical image of a South dweller, or to ruining these stereotypes on purpose – instead, he merely disregarded them, thus, making the South-related clichà ©s less powerful than they used to be. Of course, it would be wrong to assume that Egan owes the success of his book solely to the metaphor that he used to get the main point across; quite on the contrary, the book is packed with other means of expression, including not only idioms but also a very compelling story, relatable characters and a cohesive manner of storytelling. However, the connection between a dust bowl, the terror of the prairies, and a dust bowl, the economic disaster of the Great Depression, remains the glue that keeps the book together. By comparing a natural phenomenon that causes disastr ous effects with the phenomenon of the same effect induced by people, Egan makes the readers realize that the dire effects of the Great Depression were not only inevitable but also necessary for the further evolution of the United States and the entire world. Having learned to anticipate the outcomes of their actions, even though with the help of such a harsh lesson, the North and the South were finally able to reconcile and set their differences aside for better cooperation. Geography Assessment Task 1 2015 Essay

Geography Assessment Task 1 2015 Essay Geography Assessment Task 1 2015 Essay Biophysical Interactions-Deforestation in the Biosphere [Case study on Deforestation: The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra] Map of Sumatra Listed as the sixth largest island in the world, Sumatra is home to a vast variety of flora and fauna that exemplify ecological uniqueness thus inscribed the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its biodiversity therefore, at high risk of extinction and is expected to disappear in twenty five years’ time. The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra comprises of three national parks: Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Selblat National Park, and the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. These parks are stretched along the Bukit Barisan Mountain Range towards the western side of Sumatra. Deforestation is a major issue that recently has been acknowledged by authority recently, with new laws and regulations in place to protect forests around the world. This issue has highly affected the biosphere of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra and its cause has been the human activity over the past hundred years or so. Once a rainforest has been deforested, it becomes difficult to re- establish or regenerate. Gunung Leuser National Park Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park Kerinci Selblat National Park Having an impressively diverse biota in the world, with at least ten thousand inhabitants that are endemic, individuals in Sumatra over time have taken this for granted establishing an inevitable situation in our generation where flora such as medicinal plant species and animals such as local elephants and tigers, pushing these endangered flora and fauna to extinction. In the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra, lives 50% of Sumatra’s fauna including the world’s tallest flower the Amorphophallus titanum(figure1) and the world’s largest flower Rafflesia Arnoldii (figure 2) , also fauna that only exists in Sumatra, the Sumatran Tiger(figure 3) and the Sumatran Orang-utan(figure 4). Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Figure 4 Containing the 'last and largest sources commercially valuable hardwoods in Asia', the area is threatened by illegal logging, agriculture and settlements, the poaching of large animals and the proposal of new roads along the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra. It is estimated that ‘the highest rate of deforestation of any major tropical region, could lose up to three quarters of its original rainforests by 2100 and up to 24% of its biodiversity’. At this point of time, the prediction seems sceptical to most individuals but day by day, every portion of the rainforest is one step closer to extinction (evident in figure 5 and 6). This is due to the increasing population of humans resulting in a higher demand for resources from water to the flora and fauna species itself. Therefore, the deforestation through both illegal and legal human activities has caused the rainforest to gradually degrade. Figure 5 Figure 6 Being a tropical island, Sumatra has a tropical wet climate making it moderately humid. The annual temperature in Sumatra is 26.2Â °C whilst its annual precipitation is 2125 mm. Figure 6 and 7 indicates the average temperate monthly and annually, showing the range of temperature from the hottest day to the coldest day of each month and year.
